So, we’re at a turning point in the new world of Bangyard Studios and the Bangyard Bullies.
We’ve completed enough tracks to constitute an album and have only one song to wrap up to put out a full-fledged CD. Gorganus is piecing together his random recordings over the past year into a pastiche of music I think will represent him and his vision well, and I wish him great success with this.
However, it’s time to put a nail in the coffin of the album.
I’ve been working on my own records: “Short Bus to Nowhere” is an experimental double-CD. I also have a solo rap album called, “I’m Better Off for the Lack of Stability, Thank You.” As I’ve progressed through each, it has been firmly going through in the back of my head along the way that the album is dead. It’s a dead medium. It’s 8-track in a world of CD’s. And now CD’s in a world of mp3′s.
I have said more than once, that my favorite records were complete units. I can’t listen to one song off “Fear of a Black Planet.” I can’t hear pieces of “Death Certificate.” I have to hear the whole thing. The vision “Bizarre Ride II tha Pharcyde” is incredible as a whole. It’s not an easy decision to make. There’s a certain thrill to having an album.
But again, it’s a dead medium. It’s time to move on.
Henceforth, I declare officially and publicly… I am not working on any more albums. No new CD-length records. None.
I have an EP I hope to put together as a cohesive experiment I dreamed up last year but then, over. Once I wrap up the things I have sitting here, I’m moving on to a world without boundaries of time.
Make your own CD. Make your own mixtape. Or just download the whole discography and fill your mp3 device of choice with our silly little tunes. It’s yours for the taking.
My songs must stand on their own merit. They must be their own masterpieces. Each song will get exactly what it deserves. If there’s a theme, it’s the theme of all my work. It’s a life-long theme.
Anyway, that’s my tirade.
TL/DR: I’m not making albums any more. Just songs. Download them. Thanks for your support!
(Yes, mix CD’s will still be around 70 minutes for the sake of those of you who need that, plus it’s a good benchmark for a mix to be).
